Action Alert: Let’s prevent out-of-state special interests from raising taxes and fees on hard-working Mainers

Passing this bill will start the state constitutional amendment process to prohibit ballot questions that ask voters to raise taxes or fees.

This resolution proposes to amend the Constitution of Maine to prohibit raising or adding taxes or fees by statewide referendums. It would place the question: “Do you favor amending the Constitution of Maine to prohibit the imposition of any new or increased taxes or fees through the citizen initiative process?” on the ballot. This would end the recent cycle of ballot questions seeking to raise taxes on Maine people and businesses to funnel money to special interests.

The Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee has voted with an anticipated divided report. Contact your legislators to let them know this resolve should pass.
